about

Adapted from Patrick Roux, composer:

Valse Vertigo was one of my first compositions, and is heavily inspired by the waltzes of Agustín Barrios Mangoré and Frédéric Chopin. The piece takes its name from the dizzying virtuosic melodic lines that rapidly travel across the full range of the guitar. The piece was originally premiered in 1994 by Louis Trépanier, who would go on to become one of the founding members of the Canadian Guitar Quartet, when he studied with me at the Conservatoire de Gatineau. The piece has been performed countless times by musicians all over the world in a wide variety of interpretations. It is one of the most popular solo pieces from my early composition career.
